ABOUT ME

HELLO! I AM ADA KALINI HOOI XINGYU. I AM CURRENTLY STUDYING AT TEMASEK POLYTECHNIC, PURSUING A DEGREE IN "APPAREL DESIGN AND MERCHANDISING, SPECIALISING IN "FASHION DESIGN.

THROUGHOUT MY CHILDHOOD I WAS SUCKED INTO WHAT THE PEOPLE ON MY SCREENS WERE WEARING, SOON ENOUGH I STARTED TO USE CREATIVITY TO EXPRESS MYSELF. I LEARN TO BE RESOURCEFUL AND ADAPT TO DIFFICULT SITUATIONS BOTH MENTALLY AND PHYSICALLY.

I ALSO OFTEN PUSH MYSELF TO BE DIVERSE WITH WHAT I CREATE. I BELIEVE BEING OPEN-MINDED AND ENTHUSIASTIC IS CRUCIAL IN THE DESIGN WORLD.

WITH THIS ATTITUDE, I PUSH MYSELF IN FASHION DESIGN AND THE MANY SKILLS THAT I HAD TO GAIN THROUGHOUT MY EXPERIENCE IN TP.

APPAREL DESIGN PROJECT 1

APPAREL DESIGN PROJECT 1

For our apparel design project 1, the criteria is to make an outfit with sustainable materials under different topics of pollution. This outfit was inspired by the progression of streetwear in a dystopian society where the world has succumbed to a toxic haze. It speaks on the causes and effects of air pollution not only on an individual but on fashion. I wanted to push myself by limiting the colour palette I could work with so anyone who sees it could let the silhouette, details, and asymmetry pull them in.

APPAREL DESIGN PROJECT 2

FOR THIS PROJECT, I WAS YET AGAIN TASKED WITH SUSTAINABILITY. WE WERE GIVEN MATERIALS FROM SINGAPORE AIRLINES TO WORK WITH. MY CONCEPT FOLLOWS THE STORY OF A GIRL WHO BUILDS HER OWN LOVER AS A COMMENTARY ON HOW TECHNOLOGY HAS TAKEN OVER HUMAN EMOTIONS. I MADE FORM-FITTING GARMENTS FOR THE TOP AND BOTTOM WITH AN ATTACHMENT OF ROBOTIC ARMS THAT WRAP AROUND TO SHOW CONTRAST AND INTIMACY.

USING A RECTANGULAR BLOCK OF CALICO, WE WERE TASKED TO DRAPE DESIGNS THAT USE UP 100% OF SAID RECTANGLE AND LEAVE NO SCRAPS. THIS IS TO PROMOTE LESS WASTAGE OF MATERIALS AS WELL AS LEARN DIFFERENT TECHNIQUES THAT WILL HELP US WITH THE PROCESS. IT ALSO TRAINED US TO BE CREATIVE AND RESOURCEFUL WHEN CREATING ANYTHING.

ZERO WASTE DRAPING

BRAND CONCEPT

TO MAKE A BRAND OF OUR OWN AND CONCEPTUALISE A CAMPAIGN FOR IT CATERING TO A LOCAL DEMOGRAPHIC.

A SHOOT TO PAY RESPECT TO THE HARAJUKU SUBCULTURE OF LOLITA, ALONG WITH ANOTHER SUBCULTURE CALLED "DECORA" BOTH STYLES ARE MAXIMALIST; HOWEVER, THEY CONTRAST EACH OTHER DUE TO THE ERAS THEY BOTH REPRESENT. THE DRIVE BEHIND TO THE SHOOT WAS TO BLEND THE MODEL, THE OUTFIT AND THE ENVIRONMENT TOGETHER.
